the chicago teachers union karen lewis about this problem. >> some people are saying sit down and shut up. i don't think that people understand that in this system we have had a revolving door of administrators and every time they come in, they come in with a new idea we are supposed to implement and no support and no research, and basically a group of predominantly women and let's look at this the way our profession is who are being told that you just shut up and do what we tell you to do even though we know it is wrong for the children. >> the last strike in chicago happened 25 years ago. in the race for the white house the political conventions may be over, but the campaigning is far from done. president obama kicking off the

final day of a two-h day bus tour in florida. a state he won by less than three percentage points in 2008. the president is taking aim at the republican opponents saying they are offering a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to fixing the economy. >> they want your vote, but they don't want the show you their plan. that is because all they have to offer is the same prescriptions that they have had for the last 30 years. tax cuts, tax cuts, gut some regulations, and oh, more tax cuts. tax cuts when times are good. tax cuts when times are bad. tax cuts to help you lose a few extra pounds. tax cuts to improve your love life. it'll cure anything according to them. >> and priorities usa an independent group supporting obama is echoing his comments in a new ad that says that tax proposals from the romney/ryan

team would hurt the middle-class. those ads are now run in six battleground states. for his part, mitt romney is also focusing on the economy and what he calls the failed policies by president obama. in michigan where the polls are sh -- in virginia, he drove the point home that president obama does not deserve a second term. >> with the unemployment rate above 8% for 40 straight months we remember that when he said if we would let him borrow $7 trillion, it would not go above 8%, and it has. and then he went to the convention and spoke at great length, and had a wonderful amount of things to say, but he never said how to to get people jobs or jobs for peopler ohow to get people back the work. he has no more ideas after january.

living up to the name this morning when just before 11:00 on saturday morning people reported seeing a funnel cloud and spread through here. this is a private beach club called breezy point, and a lot of cabanas out here and people don't live in these cabanas, but they come out here to spend the day at the beach. a few people were there when it happened and fortunately no injuries, but the cleanup is well underway, and minor power outages and damage this this area, but the guys are putting the debris of the cabanas and the roof and these things in the back of a truck to get rid of it. this gentleman jim brady was here when the funnel cloud came through and what did you see. >> i was coming through and i did not hear the noise, but the intense white noise to feel like you are in a wind tunnel and the noise and the debris all over the place and i laid on the ground to wait it out and 15 to 20 seconds there was quiet and debris all over the place.

>> reporter: you have some cleaning up to do? >> yes. >> reporter: and matt keough, you were out here and saw the clouds coming in. >> yes, from the southwest into the northeast and debris all over the place and scared the hell out of me and we didn't know where it would go. >> reporter: and how did you stay safe? >> the thought is not myself, but people might have been hurt here. and turns out the guy who was not injured is brady, so it all works out well. >> reporter: so the maintenance guy started the cleanup right away. >> his name is harry, and he is from trinidad, and he took immediate control of the situation. >> thank you to susan candiotti. and alexandra steele, people in tornado alley are used to this stuff, but it is rare for the people in new york?

>> yes, where susan was, it was an ef-1, but the new york metro has only seen ten tornados, and quite rare and the two within moments. and that is part of a bigger storm system that affected millions of us. of course, it was also h with this strong and powerful cold front and strong for this time of the year, and ushering in cold air with it. you are getting up this morning and getting the morning paper saying it is a lot colder than it has been. and here offshore, eastern new england and rhode island and connecticut with a few showers and getting up and few showers by lunchtime for sure. and then it goes all of the way down here to tampa. we will talk about tropical storm leslie, but along the eastern seaboard, the rip current threat is very real here today and tomorrow, and be be

interesting is that you see her pointing the finger very much, and very unusual for a female and typically indication of great confidence in the message as well. >> and now, let's look at what they are calling the bro-hug between president obama and president clinton and what do you see there? is that sincere? >> it looks sincere, and what i love about this is that clinton bowed down as he approached obama and saying, i know you are more powerful and i am giving it over to you and i thought it was a wonderful and interesting choice. because the hug right now that clinton is doing this saying i'm a little spreer your to you, but the first message was i'm bowing down, but i'm still superior to you. >> and what about the president patting him back? >> we are in this together now, and we were enemies before, but all good. and patting makes it nonsexual between men and more buddy buddy and not sexual. when you guys pat, it is about just friends.

just friends. >> and it is amazing what you pick up. you mentioned the finger pointing. >> yes. >> and what does that mean? >> you mentioned that it is rare for a woman to do, but what is the meaning of it? >> typically strength and conviction of the message, but you have to be careful of use ing that in a speech, because it is a symbolic weapon and you have to be sure that the message that you are give agent the tvi you are gesturing is not attacking a person in the audience or attack inging a candidate and saying that we need to move forward and make it happen is appropriate for the finger pointing. >> on the 31st mitt romney took center stage as you may recall to accept his party's nomination, but before the speech, he walked down a line actually shaking hands, and lot like what the president does here and you see it here like what the president does with the state of the union and what do

you take away from the body language. >> well, watching this whole tape many, many times over the last few days and it is very stiff and it looks like he has a rod up his back and looks like he is leaning forward to automaton, and instead of clinton and obama as they come up to embrace somebody and step toward someone who they are shaking hands with, and romney is stay away, stay away, and much more stiff. >> and what about the performance? i'm curious about the performance, because the speeches have been compared so much romney and obama. what did you see for the two of them? >> for romney, it was the best speech he has given and he had true emotional moments specifically when he talked about his parents and the father giving the mother the rose. that was absolutely beautifulf, and he had a little bit more movement. few more gestures. but he didn't use his hands much. >> what is so exasperating that he would say something where a gesture would come to say we want to build america and your hands generally just do that,

and we need to build america. we need to fight for our freedom. >> he needs to spend more time with jennifer gran hoholm. >> yes. and the president? >> and the president did one who would bring the fist together and bring it towards the heart to call for the audience to bring it to the heart -- >> is this important? >> yes, body language is highly symbolic and imprints on the brain there, and as the audience is watching and listening, they are getting the emotional content of the body language and the language. >> did you pick up that on? >> yes, because if ooet over the kapd dates doesn't have that synchronicity we change the channel or disconnect or walk out of the room, and we don't know why, it is because we don't feel the credible of that

that's one of them. the bombs are said to be filled with tnt and are being dropped from the air. opposition activists say that at least 18 people were killed across the country today amid the mounting vlence. in an interview with nina dell santos, john mccain blasted president obama for not doing more. >> this administration has proudly say they lead from behind, and we have sat still and watched this massacre go on now with over 20,000 people in the united states of america. the president of the united states has not said a word on behalf of the people who are being slaughtered and it is shameful. >> what type of leadership here? >> the turks and everybody in the region are crying out for american leadership and we should lead. voice the moral support as ronald reagan did for the people behind the iron curtain and this

president will not do that. and establish a fight or a sanctuary or free zone where they can organize. look, everything that we worried about if we intervened would happen has now -- it happened because we didn't. there is a rise of al qaeda, and rise of extremisism and now a greater threat of the use of chemical weapons and this president unbelievably announced that the only thing he said is that if bashar al assad used chemicalsweapons, he has crossed the line and isn't that suggesting that everything up to that point is acceptable? >> and last month more than 70 iraqi officials were killed. in pakistan, a christian girl accused of blasphemy by burning pages of the korron has been been released on bail, and

a helicopter was even brought in to take her away to ensure her safety. this is reza sala in islamabad. >> reporter: in several previous blasphemy cases in pakistan, the accused have faced vigilante justice, and the authorities did not want anything to happen to the girl, and some of the police officers had the guns drawn and ready just in case with someone holding her and covering her face with a green scarf, she was whisked away to a helicopter and taken to undisclosed location to be with her family. this is a girl who just last month lived in one of the poorest neighborhoods of islamabad and with neighbors and suddenly became the subject of blasphemy and now this exit from

jail in the helicopter. no doubt that her lawyers say that she was terrified after all of this. and a judge granted her bail after she spent three weeks in an adult jail. last month one of her neighbors saying tt she burned pages of the koran and her lawyer saying she is an innocent girl with a low iq who was framed by a local cleric. last week this case took another twist when that local cleric was arrested and accused of planting burned pages of the kor flan in bag she was carrying. the case is pending for him, too, and people are calling for that case to be withdrawn, but for now, she is safe with her family. an uproar at the dnc which came when the delegates were asked to put god and jerusalem back into the party platform. why is this and i pornt change?

>> all of those delegates in favor say yay. all of those delegates opposed say no. >> no. >> and in the opinion of the chair two-thirds have voted in the affirm tiative and the moti is adopted a and the platform has been amended as shown on the screen. >> and look at the reaction of this got on the conservative website of the drudge report, they booed putting god back, but it is not clear really what the delegates were actually booing about. dnc officials say that obama wanted the language reinstated and insisted on it. and remember that the republican platform mentions god ten times and now romney is campaign iingn the issue. >>ly not take god out of the name of the platform. i will not take god off of our coins and i will not take god out of my heart. we are a nation bestowed by god. >> joining me in morning to talk about it is rab bye david --

rabbi david volpei, and can you tell us why this issue resonates so much with people. both the president and mitt romney have visited the great wall. >> well, israel is in a great category among the nations, and it is the only country that names the capital, but other people refuse to recognize it. it is the only country whose surrounding enemies say they will wipe it it off of the face of the earth and the world tolerates the rhetoric, so it is enormously important for the united states which is israel's principle ally which has a community of interests and community of ideas with israel to stand up to say that israel has the right to name its capital like every other nation,

and that it has a right to exist like every other nation, and in some ways the removal of jerusalem from the platform was not just counter productive, but it was dispiriting. it was painful. and the reinstatement was enormously important. >> and when you see the candidates visiting the western wall, you think about how jerusalem and what jerusalem re really means to the candidates and how that might affect the jewish vote. how do you think it does? >> there are a lot of different jewish votes. there are jewish votes that are primarily centered on israel, and then jewish voters who vote on a whole range of questions, but i would say that any candidate who doesn't affirm a commitment to israel and whose actions are not consistent with the idea of the united states protecting israel would suffer tremendously among jewish voters and i hope among voters in

general who acknowledge not just how important israel is on a general ideological plane, but in terms of it being the only democracy and the ally in the crucial area of the world. >> let me play a short clip for you of the dnc chair defending the amendments of the platform while talking with don lemon of c cnn. >> we made sure that the platform be the capital of israel and remain the capital of israel. when mitt romney found out that his platform did not reflect his personal view on abortion and there being exceptions for the rape and the insist and the life of the mother, he did nothing and nothing to amend the platform of his party. >> and is there a way to separate religion from policy or have they come too close together? >> well, it is not that they are too close together,ut in some ways they have always been close

together. on one hand it is true that my religious con vick shn k shconv someone else's convictions and therefore you must make the law xyz and therefore you can't remove religion from politic, because that is asking religious people to place the deepest convictions on the side when they engage in the public sphere, and you can't ask anyone to do that, so religious convictions will be always brought to politics, but they have to have a limited role, because politics is the area, is the arena in which we all work out together in argument and discussion in debate and in compromise what it is that we believe ought to be the law of the nation. >> do you think that there was a message there that this conflict at the dnc sent to voters? what does it show? >> i think that the difficulty, and clearly it was a difficulty in getting jerusalem and god

welcome back. you know it as fast and furious, the controversial program to stop gun-running criminals. in 2010 when u.s. border agent was killed in a firefight at the mexican border with guns used in that operation. now mexico says that it has

arrest ed arrested a second man in con neck shup with that murder. a development my next guest calls long awaited even as the family of the slain agent seeks answers on other issues. his name is bob hire and he is the chairman of the brian terry foundation and also brian terry's cousin and he joins me by phone. good morning, bob. first, tell me how the family is doing. >> good morning, randi. the family has been anticipating a development like this for quite some time. it has been almost two years since brian was murdered. this december will be two years and it is long awaited. we have a long way to go, and only two of the five individuals that we believe were there in peck canyon outside of rico,

arizo arizona, that resulted in the firefight that resulted in brian's murder have been taken into custody. so this is a good development, and the family is pleased and appreciative of the cooperation of the mexican authorities and law enforce ment there. we hope they will continue to pursue the other fugitives. >> as we mentioned this is the second in connection with your cousin's murder and three others still on the run. have you been given any information or updates on their whereabouts or the government's efforts to try to track them down? >> well, we stay in touch with the u.s. attorney's office, and the efforts on go ing ing to coordinate with the mexican authorities. as you can imagine all of those efforts are pretty secretive, but we get briefings every now and then. we believe that the fugitives are in mexico. so, it is really up to the mexican authorities to find

these guys and apprehend them. >> i know you called it a great development i want to share a comment from the house oversight chairman darrell issa who said this about the arrest recently. this is one more step toward justice for the family of fallen border patrol agent brian terry and ultimately not only the bandit bandits who fired the shots, but also those who put the guns in their hands must be accountable. i know you are seeking accountability from the government, and you are on the same page there as congressman issa. >> absolutely. i think that the congressman issa shares our frustration in the lack of, you know, answers and accountability with respect to operation "fast and furious" and the flawed atf gun running and trafficking investigation. we know that buyers were allowed to walk out of numerous gun

stores in the arizona area in the area. and we know that the two guns that were found at the murder scene, and we don't know what was allowed once he left that gun store between then and the time that the guns showed up at brian's murder scene and those things are unknown to us, and it is really has been frustrating, because the family wants truth and justice and we don't care about this political fight. we don't -- we are not in this because of partisan politics. we believe that we are owed answers. i think that most americans believe that as well. >> you absolutely are. you absolutely are. you should know what happened to your cousin brian terry, a we certainly thank you for coming on and keep us posted on the latest developments and best of luck with the brian terry foundation, bob. thank you. >> great, randi.

is that what we are going to see now? >> yes, nonstop on the ground and nonstop on the air, and if you think that you have seen ads in the swing states out there, just you wait, because they will take up whatever air time is available to them on that and still lots of money left on both sides to work out these final couple of months. you are also going to see three presidential debates and those will be key especially if going into september as we believe we will, and we will see more or less still a race that is tied at one point or another. someone may break loose, but it is going to have to be something not only on the ground so much as a debate performance or something or the other, and so that is what they are going to be concentrating on again when they have the biggest audience they will have in the remaining days of the campaign. >> and they will be using the biggest weapons no doubt, and one of them certainly for obama is bill clinton, but i know that you will be talking to newt gingrich about how he thinks that mitt romney can stop

clinto clinton. >> yes. and i think that there's someone who kored the '90s on capitol hill, some revisionist history going on here and they weren't that great of friends, and did they get something done? they did, but the idea of somehow it was eight years of everybody getting along is craziness. there is that, but also, how much of a factor is bill clinton in this race? because generally, you know, when we talk about endorsements, we say, that they don't really matter and it is really the nominee. and the question is whether bill clinton is an exception to that and can he really move votes? >> i know you have seen this bit out of florida out of the sports bar there where the president met this 7-year-old and found out he was from hawaii and asked him for the birth certificate, and what do you make off that? >> well, we have seen the president joke about this before and it was a well known political tactic if somebody is attacking you on something, you turn it around, and he has done

the presidential election is down to the final two months. mitt romney and president barack obama are going city to city saying that the party sies and messages are different and you saw just how different in the republican and the democratic national conventions. t joining me is huffington blogger and i know that you watched both of the conventions

and many people are talking about the perceived lack of diversity at the rnc and what did you make of it? >> well, if you looked at the crowd as them ka ra panned back and forth across the two conventions, as far as diversity clearly the republicans were way more caucasian-friendly, and you know, the democrats rhea really interested in gratuitous multiculturalism, and when the camera panned for a random sampling of the dnc, you would see like a gay, disabled and turban next to african-american hasidic veteran and it is like they were not trying to go for the same homogenous effect that the republicans are so good at. >> not the way you put it, no. let's talk about the music choices. the dnc really rock ed the hous with the few fighters and versus the rnc with what the oak ridge

boys. >> the oak ridge boys, yes. >> what about the youth vote? does anybody care? >> well, the problem is that, is that the republicans are having a hard time to get permission from the artists to use their songs. the democrats have the entire motown catalog at their disposal, but the republicans have to rely pretty much on taylor hicks and anything else that is public domain and so they have "amazing grace" and "battle him republican" but they had a black gospel group, and that is the first time ever. that was a big breakthrough and i'm sure they got whatever price they asked for, because diver diversity does not come cheap. >> no, certainly not. i am sure you have your song picked out if it ever comes to that day, right? >> yes, absolutely. absolutely. i am saving for that. >> all right. so the gop also they had clint eastwood of course and we can't forget that experience, an older white male, and the dems with

the celebrity speech maker, they had eva longoria and young and female latina and stunning. what does the party's hollywood star power choice say to you? >> yeah, it was weird. a young mexican desperate housewife and compared to a, you know, an older disgruntled cowboy and eva was not the only one in the stable, because they had tons of star power aside from the obama and clinton and michelle, themselves. you had mary j. blige and mark anthony singing the national anthem, and the democratic chair did not have an interesting moment, but what is interesting is that the republicans booed obama and the democrats booed god, so theyh
